Although the term theory can be used to describe many types of theories, its relation to the course simplifies the list. The book uses theories as a partial explanation to a phenomenon being studies.
Uses in other disciplines
Theoris in general are used to give explanations to all sorts of phenomenons and problems. A famous theory for example is the big bang theory.
