With an emphasis as a writing intensive school, the Whittier College English Department prides itself in an interdisciplinary and historical approach to English language and literature. The department offers a major and a minor in English, and it is possible to have an emphasis in Creative Writing with the major. The courses range from broad expansions of literature to semester long analysis' of single books or authors, or writing poetry to creating stories using digital media. Though many majors tend to lean towards teaching as a career, the department and completion of the major can also prepare you for such jobs as journalism or law.
